Building a menu from a photograph

Importing an existing menu, drafting descriptions from the real recipe, and estimating nutrition — with a human between every step and publication.

The dullest week of adopting a new system is typing in the menu. A property with two hundred items will put that off, and the system stays unused until they do.

Photographing the existing menu and extracting items, sections and prices removes most of that. What comes back is a draft for review, not a published menu.

Descriptions are drafted from the item's actual recipe rather than from its name, so the copy describes what the kitchen makes. Nutrition is estimated from ingredient quantities for the same reason — it is arithmetic over the recipe rather than a guess about a dish.

Nothing publishes itself. Every generated field lands as a draft a human accepts, and generated content is sanitised before it is stored.
